CONVOCATORIA​
​
Esta es una plataforma de colaboración dirigida a la producción y promoción de manifestaciones artísticas enfocadas en la relación arte – naturaleza. El programa consiste en ofrecer a un artista la posibilidad de realizar una residencia en la Región de la Meseta P’urhépecha del estado de Michoacán
Durante esta estancia se realizarán varias actividades en función del intercambio artístico cultural en término de ideas, proyectos, técnicas aplicables a las distintas disciplinas artísticas de interés para los participantes. Distintas facetas y resultados de esta experiencia serán exhibidos al terminar la residencia.
¿QUIENES PUEDEN PARTICIPAR?
Artistas (profesionales / emergentes) y estudiantes de arte de las ramas visuales (pintura, fotografía, videoarte, dibujo, escultura), música y composición, literatura, danza, agentes y/o gestores culturales, interesados en conocer la cultura mexicana y más específicamente la herencia P’urhépecha del Estado de Michoacán, y en los procesos de intercambio cultural con artistas de otros estados de la República Mexicana, así como de otros países.

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PROYECTO
​
1. Impartición de talleres enfocados en la elaboración o aprendizaje de los elementos más destacados de la herencia cultural mexicana y del pueblo purépecha.

- Tradicional purépecha (Pirekua – declarada Patrimonio Intangible de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, son y abajeño)

· Diseño textil tradicional (Para la confección de distintas prendas de vestir como el rebozo, guanengo, camisas, servilletas.)
· Elaboración de Catrinas y Calaveras (Importante elemento en las celebraciones de Día de Muertos)
· Papel picado (arte popular importante en la mexicanidad, y muy utilizado en la fiesta de día de muertos de gran presencia cultural en el estado de Michoacán)
· Elaboración de Peribanas (Elegantes piezas de madera hechas a mano con la técnica de Maque)
· Cuentos y leyendas de nuestra tierra.
* Esta residencia pretende como fin primero el intercambio intercultural y la impartición de talleres grupales para la difusión de la Cultura P’urhépecha. Sin embargo, existe la posibilidad de participar para llevar a cabo un proyecto personal que requiera la totalidad del tiempo de la misma, aunque aconsejamos tomar por lo menos uno de los talleres e involucrarse en algunas de las actividades de integración y formar parte de la dinámica grupal. Si este fuera el caso, el costo de la residencia será el mismo.
2. Impartición de talleres cortos o presentaciones a cargo de los artistas.
Con el fin de que el intercambio se realice en ambos sentidos, se pretende que los artistas participantes en la estancia también aporten conocimiento acerca de los elementos culturales de sus estados y/o países.

3. Clínica de proyectos.
Con el fin de generar una plataforma de retroalimentación entre los artistas residentes, a partir del cual se genera un diálogo constante en torno de los proyectos en curso, también permite el planteamiento de proyectos comunes en los que se podrá involucrar a los residentes locales.

4. Actividades de integración
- Círculo de la palabra. Uno de los pilares conceptuales de esta residencia es la interculturalidad. El programa ofrece variados escenarios de diálogo, incluidos conversaciones con representantes de la comunidad indígena, enfocadas a la sensibilización de la diversidad cultural.
- Caminatas creativas. Tomando en cuenta los intereses de los participantes, se podrán planear excursiones cortas a pie para conocer los alrededores del lugar y hacer registro fotográfico o en video de los usos y costumbres de los habitantes locales.
5. Visitas a lugares de amplia riqueza natural y relevancia histórica, artística y cultural.
En el entendido de que la cultura vive también a través de las tradiciones de los pueblos, consideramos de gran importancia que los artistas participantes vean estas manifestaciones en su contexto natural. Que vean de manos de sus artesanos todas sus elaboraciones, que prueben los platillos típicos, que escuchen la música tradicional en sus contextos originales. Visitaremos la ciudad capital Morelia, los Pueblos Mágicos de Tzintzuntzan -lugar de colibríes-, Pátzcuaro –donde están los dioses- y Santa Clara del Cobre, Uruapan –donde florecen y nacen los frutos al mismo tiempo- y su Parque Nacional del Río Cupatitzio –que canta por sus cascadas-, Quiroga, Zacán –lugar donde se labra la tierra- Zirahuén – espejo de los dioses- , Camécuaro –lugar de la amargura oculta-, Paracho –ofrenda-, la isla de Janitzio –flor de maíz- y la Cañada de los Once Pueblos.
El Programa Pueblos Mágicos de México, contribuye al rescate y revaloración y es un reconocimiento a los habitantes de ciertas poblaciones que han guardado la riqueza cultural e histórica que encierran. Michoacán es uno de los estados de la República Mexicana con más Pueblos Mágicos al día de hoy. En el itinerario de viaje de la estancia se planean visitar algunos de estos pueblos.
6. Asistencia a festivales culturales y celebraciones importantes.
-“Concurso Artístico de la Raza Purépecha” de Zacán.
Este proyecto, de gran importancia en todo el estado, se ha dado a la tarea del rescate y difusión de las tradiciones ancestrales de la raza P’urhépecha, a través de la música y la danza. Zacán se ha convertido en el corazón del renacimiento de una cultura.
-“Celebración del Día de Muertos”.
(Patrimonio Intangible de la Humanidad UNESCO)
Esta celebración hace honor a los difuntos con rituales que fusionan tradiciones indígenas y católicas. Se celebra del 31 de octubre al 2 de noviembre. Con la certeza de que los muertos serían ofendidos con sentimientos de tristeza y luto, el Día de Muertos se honra a los difuntos con la comida, bebida, fiesta y actividades que disfrutaban en vida. Día de Muertos reconoce a la muerte como una fase natural de la experiencia de la vida; durante la celebración, se llama a los difuntos de su sueño eterno para compartir con seres queridos.
7. Exposición – presentación.
Sabemos que la difusión y promoción es parte importante de cualquier proceso creativo en términos de manifestaciones artístico culturales. Que el proyecto llegue a los ojos del espectador y se lleve una dinámica de retroalimentación. Por ello, será de vital importancia proporcionar una plataforma para que los artistas y/o maestros participantes en la estancia compartan su trabajo con el público.

ALOJAMIENTO Y CLIMA
· La estancia se llevará a cabo en la Población de Angahuan (del p’urhépecha Angahuani, que significa “Lugar más allá de la pendiente”), en la región de la Meseta P’urhépecha del Estado de Michoacán. Un pueblo indígena que parece haberse quedado estacionado en el tiempo, ya que es un lugar privilegiado que conserva una infinidad de tradiciones prehispánicas, celebraciones festivas, comida típica, trajes p’urhépechas, encierra tesoros que se han conservado por siglos.
· Al día de hoy es un destino turístico que ofrece un amplio ventanal, desde el que se puede contemplar el volcán Paricutín, volcán más joven del mundo y es considerado una de las maravillas naturales del mundo. En el año de 1943, sepultó por completo el pueblo de San Juan Parangaricutiro, quedando a la vista tan solo la torre de la iglesia. Las ruinas del pueblo y el volcán se pueden visitar a pie o a caballo, mismos que están disponibles para renta en el pueblo.
· P’urhé se llevará a cabo en un complejo de cabañas situado aproximadamente a un kilómetro del poblado, en una región boscosa. Octubre es el final de la temporada de lluvias y el inicio la época de frío. Se aconseja a los participantes traer calzado y ropa adecuadas, así como un sleeping bag, ya que se esperan noches con temperaturas frías.
· Las habitaciones son de ocupación compartida, existe la opción de tener habitaciones privadas con el costo adicional correspondiente (se deberá hacer mención en el formato de aplicación para realizar las gestiones necesarias). Asimismo hay la posibilidad de traer casa de campaña y acampar en el área al aire libre del complejo. Las duchas y sanitarios son compartidos.
· Se cuenta con áreas comunes, un salón de usos múltiples y áreas al aire libre para la impartición de los talleres y el desarrollo de los proyectos personales y proyectos comunes.
· El lugar cuenta con señal de teléfono y 3G pero no con señal WI FI, el uso de internet se puede hacer en el pueblo o durante los viajes de fin de semana.
ALIMENTOS
​
· Se ofrecerán a los participantes tres alimentos durante el día (desayuno, comida y cena) y agua para beber, café y té a cualquier hora del día; como parte importante del programa, el menú se basará en la cocina tradicional de la región.
Cabe mencionar que la cocina mexicana es altamente condimentada y el uso del picante es común, pero habrá la opción de pedir alimentos según las preferencias de los participantes, incluyendo menús vegetarianos. Se aconseja mencionar en el formato de aplicación alergias o resistencia a ingredientes específicos.

1 CV de Artista o Estudiante de Artes, que incluya datos personales y de contacto.
2 Semblanza que describa intereses, práctica artística, proceso creativo, línea de trabajo o investigación, inspiración, influencias.
3 Carta de motivación. Cuéntanos las razones por las que quieres ser parte de este programa.
4 Portafolio. Envíanos una muestra con lo más representativo de tu trabajo artístico. De 5 a 15 imágenes para las disciplinas que así lo permitan, y lo que el artista considere conveniente en el caso de otras modalidades, para transmitir una idea clara de su producción.
5 Propuesta de artista. En el entendido de que P’urhé pretende llevar a cabo un intercambio intercultural integral, y la inclusión de las personas de la localidad, invitamos a todos los artistas, a participar en una de las siguientes modalidades:
a) Desarrollo de proyecto personal individual o colectivo (a realizar durante el período de la estancia, se podrán hacer colaboraciones con los otros artistas). Incluir breve descripción.
b) Traer un proyecto realizado previamente para exposición, o participación en la muestra final, en el caso de los participantes de las artes escénicas.
c) Llevar a cabo un taller corto, actividad recreativa o dinámica de integración con los otros artistas, y en lo posible, con personas de la comunidad.
6 Lista de los talleres de mayor interés; con base en esto se definirán los horarios y duración de los mismos, y podremos prever las cantidades de materiales.
COSTOS Y FORMA DE PAGO
​
· El programa P’URHÉ tiene un costo de $ 15, 000 (Artistas Mexicanos) 1,250 dólares (Artistas Extranjeros) que avala:
​
- Alojamiento y alimentos por las 5 semanas que dura la estancia (en el lugar de la estancia).
​
- Traslado del Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México al lugar de la estancia.
​
- Talleres y materiales.
* En caso de requerir materiales o herramientas adicionales para proyectos personales, los artistas deberán traerlos consigo. La ubicación del lugar de la residencia es rural, y puede ser complicado encontrar materiales muy específicos. Sin embargo, estamos en la mejor disposición de apoyar a los artistas con sus proyectos personales y los materiales necesarios; agradecemos que nos dejen saber con anticipación esta situación, para poder determinar si es mejor traer dichos materiales consigo o se pueden encontrar con facilidad en la región.

- Caminatas creativas durante la semana
​
- Excursiones durante los fines de semana; incluye el transporte, las entradas a lugares de interés, y alojamiento fuera del lugar de la residencia; sin embargo, las comidas durante los fines de semana corren por cuenta del artista.
​
- Una vez aceptado en el programa P’urhé, el artista deberá realizar un pago no reembolsable por la mitad del costo total, a través de un depósito o transferencia bancaria, o Paypal. El segundo pago deberá realizarse antes de iniciar el programa, bajo el mismo método o el primer día de la misma en efectivo.
· El artista cubrirá los costos de traslado hasta la ciudad de México, y en el caso de los artistas internacionales, los gastos por emisión de Visa si fuera requerida (favor de consultar el sitio del Instituto Nacional de Migración:

OPEN CALL​
​
It is a collaboration platform addressed to the production and promotion of artistic means focused on the relation between art and nature. The program intends to offer to artists the possibility of participating on a residency in the Region Meseta P’urhépecha in the State of Michoacán.
During the stay several activities will take place with the purpose of an artistic and cultural Exchange in terms of ideas, projects, applicable techniques to diverse artistic disciplines of interest to participants. Several facets and the results of this experience will be exhibited at the term of the residency.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
​
Artists (professional /emergent) and art students of the visual disciplines (painting, photography, art video, drawing, sculpture), music and composition, literature, dance, culture agents and promoters, interested on Mexican culture, and more specifically on the P’uhrépecha ancient heritage of the state of Michoacán, and the processes of cultural Exchange with artists from other states of the Mexican Republic and other countries.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
P’urhé raises as a project of short residency and artistic production that will last for 5 weeks. During the stay, several activities will be performed in the interest of and artistic – cultural Exchange.
​
1. Short workshops focused on the elaboration or learning of the most outstanding elements of the cultural heritage of the Mexican and more specific, the Purhépecha people.

· Catrinas and Calaveras (Important element on the celebrations of “Day of the Dead” and an icon on toda’s popular Mexican imaginary)
· Papel picado (important popular art in the concept of mexicanity, used in the celebration of Day of the Dead, which has an outstanding presence in the state of Michoacán.
· Peribanas (Elegant handmade woodcrafts with the technique of Maque)
· Legends and storytelling of México
* This residency intends primarly the cultural exchange and the teaching of group workshops to promote the P’urhépecha Culture. However, there is the possibility of participating to develop a personal project that demands the totality of the time, in which case, we advice to take at least one of the workshops and get involved in some of the group activities. Given this situation, the cost of the residency will remain the same.
2. Short workshops or artist talks guided by the artists.
In order to ensure an exchange on both directions, participant artists are also encouraged to share their knowledge on the cultural resources of their states / countries.
3. Artist talks.
With the purpose of providing a feedback platform among the artists and a dialogue around current and future projects, that will allow collaborations between artists and local residents, we encourage all artists to share their work.
4. Integration activities.
​
-Sharing circle. One of the concept columns of this residency is interculturality. Another dialogue scenario includes conversations with people who represent the indigenous community, focused on sensibility towards cultural diversity.
​
- Creative walks. Considering common interests of participants, we can plan short walking excursions to see the environment of the area, take pictures and/or video and know more about the costumes of the locals.
5. Visits to places of historical, artistic and cultural relevance.
​
On the understanding that culture lives also throughout the traditions of people, we consider of great importance that artists will be able to behold these manifestations on their natural contexts. See from the hands of their artisans all their Works, taste the typical dishes, listen to traditional music on their original environments. For all these reasons, short trips will be organized during the weekends. We envisage to visit the capital city Morelia, Uruapan –where flowers and fruits bloom at the same time-, the Magical Towns of Pátzcuaro –where Gods are-, Santa Clara del Cobre and Tzintzuntzan –place of hummingbirds-, as well as Paracho – tribute-, Zirahuén –mirror of the Gods-, Camécuaro –place of hidden sorrow-, Angahuan –place beyond the hill-, Paricutín volcano, the Island of Janitzio –flower of corn- and the Valley of the Eleven Towns.

The Program “Magical Villages of México”, run by the federal government of México, contributes to the recue and valorization of certain towns, and it is a public recognition to the labor of their inhabitants in keeping the cultural and historical treasures intact. Nowadays, Michoacán is one of the States of the Mexican Republic with more Magical Villages. The travel itinerary of P’uhré intends to visit some of these towns.

6. Cultural Festivals and important celebrations.
​
-“Artistic Contest of the Purhépecha People” in Zacán.
This outstanding project has a great importance all along the State, with the purpose of rescuing and projecting the ancient traditions of the P’urhépecha Culture, throughout dance and music. Zacán has become the heart of a resurrected Culture.
​
-“Celebration of the Day of the Dead”.
(Untouchable Heritage of Humanity UNESCO)
This celebration honors the dead with rituals that fuse indigenous and catholic traditions. It takes place from october 31th to november 2nd. Being certain that the dead will be ofended with feelings of sadness and sorrow, Day of the Dead offers tribute to the deceased with the food, drink, party and activities they enjoyed while they were alive. Day of the Dead recognizes death as a natural fase of life; during the celebration, the souls of the deceased are called from they eternal rest to share with they beloved living ones.
7. Exhibition – presentation.
We are aware that promotion is an important part of any creative process in terms of cultural and artistic manifestations; to take projects all the way to the beholder’s gaze and favor a feedback dynamic. For these reasons, it will be of invaluable importance to provide a platform in which local and invited artists will share their work and interact with the public.
ACCOMODATION AND WEATHER
​
· The residency will take place in the town of Angahuan (from P’urhépecha Angahuani, that means “place beyond de hill”, in the region of the Meseta P’urhépecha in the state of Michoacán. An indigenous town that seems to be frozen on time, a privileged place that keeps infinity of prehispanic traditions, festive celebrations, typical cuisine, costumes; it has held treasures throughout centuries.
​
· Today, it is a touristic destiny that offers a wide window, from which, one can behold the Paricutín Volcano in all its greatness, the youngest volcano in the world, considered a natural wonder. In the year of 1943, it covered a whole town, San Juan Parangaricutiro – large earthenware jaro on the hill- keeping visible only the church tower. The ruins of the town and the volcano crater can be reached by foot or by horse, available for rent in town.
· P’urhé will be run in a natural park of cabins, in a forest, one kilometer away from the main village. October is the end of the raining season and the beginning of the cold season. It is advised to bring along a sleeping bag and proper shoes and clothing, for cold nights are expected.
​
· Rooms will be on a shared basis; there is the option of having a private room incurring on extra cost (if this was the case, it should be mentioned on the application so the needed arrangements can be done). There is also the possibility of bringing a camping tent, for there is a huge open air land where camping is possible. Showers and restrooms will be shared.
​
· There are common areas and open air areas, a big building to be used for multiple tasks, as a studio or classroom, and to develop personal or common projects.
​
· Phone and 3G signal is available for mobiles and smartphones, WI-FI signal will only be available in town or during the weekend trips.
FOOD
​
· 3 meals per day will be offered to residents (breakfast, lunch and dinner), as well as drinking water, coffe and tea at any time during the day; as an important issue on the program, the menu will be based on the traditional cuisine of the area.
To mention that Mexican cuisine is highly spicy and the use of pepper is very common, however it will be possible to prepare food according to the preferences of the participants, including vegetarian meals if requested. We strongly advise to mention on the application form any allergies or resistance to specific ingredients.
HOW TO APPLY?

2 Brief statement describing interests, artistic practice, creative, process, production or research line, inspiration, influences.
3 Motivation letter. Tell us the reasons why you want to be a part of this program.
4 Portfolio. Send us samples that represent your artistic work. From 5 to 15 images for the disciplines that allow so; if this is not the case, please send us what you consider can give us a clear idea of your work.
5 Artist proposal. With full understanding that P’urhé intends to promote an integral cultural Exchange, also involving local artist and residents of the village, we invite all artists to participate in one (at least) of the following options:
a) Develop an individual or group project during the period of the stay (collaborations will be welcome). Please include a brief description.
b) Bring a previous project to present on the final exhibition, or a performing participation (in the case of performing artists).
c) Teach a short workshop, plan a creative or integration activity involving the other artists, and people from the community if possible (highly recommended).

6. List of the workshops you are interested on taking, so we can arrange duration and schedules, as well as the amount of materials needed.
FEES AND PAYEMENT METHOD
​
P’URHÉ Artistic Residency Michoacán has a cost of $ 1, 250 American dollars that cover:
​
- Accommodation and meals for the 5 weeks of the residency (in the place of the stay).
​
- Transportation from the International Airport Benito Juárez in México city to the place of the residency.
​
- Workshops and materials.
* If any artist needs additional materials or tools for personal projects, they will need to bring them along with them. The location of the residency place is in a rural environment, therefore, it might be complicated to find very specific materials. However, we will do our best to help artists with their personal projects and the materials needed, we strongly advice to let us know on advance about this so we can determine if it is best to bring stuff or we can easily find here.

- Creative walks
​
- Weekend trips. Transport, entrance fees to places of interest and accommodation outside the residency place (if needed) are included; however, meals during the weekends will be paid by the artists.
​
· Once accepted on P’urhé program, the artist will make a non refundable payment covering half of the total cost, through a bank transference or Paypal payment. The final payment shall be done before the residency starts or the first day on cash.
